Gas transit volume up 16% in Nov – Gas TSO of Ukraine

Compared with October, natural gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transmission system to European countries in November increased by 16%, to 3.049 billion cubic meters.

That’s according to a report by Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, posted on Telegram and seen by Ukrinform.

"In November, transit of natural gas through Ukraine increased by almost 16% to 3.049 billion cubic meters. Slovakia remains the main destination, receiving 80% of total transit," the statement said.

It is noted that last month transit to Moldova increased by 89% (34 million cubic meters), and to Poland – shrank by 13% to 297 mcm.

In November, the average daily volume of Russian gas shipments through Ukraine stood up to 102 million cubic meters, which is below the minimum amount under the existing transit contract.

"There was some manipulation when daily transit decreased to 57 mcm early last month, and then increased to 109 mcm, as provided for by the transit contract," said Gas TSO of Ukraine CEO Serhiy Makogon.

Commenting on the situation, the official stressed that the Ukrainian GTS is able to increase transit by 2.5 times compared to current volumes.

As reported, in October, gas transit of by the Ukrainian GTS to European consumers amounted to 2.634 bcm, which is 19% below the September level.

The current transit contract between Naftogaz of Ukraine and Russia's Gazprom was concluded at the end of 2019 for a period of five years. It provides that Gazprom reserve transit capacity of 65 bcm (178 mcm daily) in 2020 and 40 bcm (110 mcm daily) for 2021-2024.
