Ukraine interested in expanding access of agricultural products to Chinese market

Exports to China doubled last year, and Ukraine is interested in increasing trade and expanding commodity items.

“China is a key trading partner of Ukraine in the Asian region. At year-end 2020, the trade turnover between our countries increased by 20.5% up to $15.4 billion, of which exports doubled up to $7.1 billion. Half of the Ukrainian exports to China are agricultural products and we are interested in further increasing trade supplies and expansion of commodity items,” Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka said during a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Ukraine Fan Xianrong, the Ministry’s press service informs.

The parties discussed Ukraine-China cooperation in trade, investment, and agriculture. The priorities of bilateral cooperation for 2021 were also outlined, in particular, regarding the prospects of holding meetings of bilateral bodies of sectoral cooperation in the mentioned areas this year.

The meeting participants paid special attention to the topical issues of expanding the access of Ukrainian agri-food products to the Chinese market.

In January-February 2021, Ukraine-China trade turnover amounted to $2 billion 494.2 million (+18.4%); exports totaled $1 billion 092.8 million (+ 43.8%), imports – $1 billion 401.4 million (+ 4.1%).

The share of agri-food products in the total structure of Ukrainian exports to China accounted for 53.1% ($579.8 million).
