Zelensky: Most difficult problem with energy in Kyiv is that more than 1,400 buildings are without heating
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this on Telegram following a coordination call on the energy sector, Ukrinform reports.
“I held a coordination call on the situation in the energy sector and on efforts to eliminate the consequences of Russian strikes. The most challenging conditions remain in the capital: more than 1,400 apartment buildings in Kyiv are still without heating, and it is crucial that people in every one of these buildings receive all the support they need,” he stated.
According to him, the scope of the heat package program will be increased in Kyiv.
“Kyiv will also see an expansion of the Warmth Packages program: in the near future, distribution will reach 40,000 kits, with a significant share allocated specifically to Kyiv,” the president claimed.
During the coordination call, Zelensky said there were reports on the situation in the Kyiv region, Kharkiv, and other cities in the region, as well as in the Sumy, Chernihiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, in Kropyvnytskyi and the region. The situation in the Kherson region was discussed separately: six settlements in the region are experiencing severe energy shortages due to constant drone strikes and, accordingly, harsh conditions for recovery.
The coordination call also heard reports on Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Lviv, and Chernivtsi regions.
Separately, Zelensky discussed the nuclear power situation with Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal. “For the Russian army, our nuclear energy facilities – including the infrastructure and grids linked to nuclear power plants – remain, in effect, constant targets. And this requires a level of response beyond what has been achieved so far. More protection is needed, as well as stronger communication with partners, so that the world does not remain silent about this threat,” the president noted.
The President spoke with the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Minister of Defense about implementing agreements with partners to supply air defense systems.
“There must be a clear schedule for receiving the relevant packages from partners, and all state institutions must be fully engaged to expedite the deliveries. There must not be situations where pauses in supplies for Ukraine practically strengthen the impact of Russian strikes,” Zelensky emphasized.
As reported, on the night and morning of February 7, Russians attacked energy facilities in eight regions of Ukraine.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal said that Russian strikes hit substations and power lines at 750 kV and 330 kV, which are the backbone of Ukraine's power grid, as well as the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants. Nuclear power plant blocks were unloaded by personnel.
