Ukrainian MPs refuse to cancel land market bill
MPs made respective decisions at an extraordinary parliament meeting on April 13, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
The Verkhovna Rada chairman may now sign the bill on amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on the sale of agricultural land and submit it for signature to the president of Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada at an extraordinary meeting early on March 31 adopted a bill introducing amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine on the sale of agricultural land. Some 259 MPs voted for the bill. The day before, President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the parliament to urgently adopt two bills necessary for Ukraine to receive assistance from international partners, in particular, the bill on the land market.
However, on the same day, independent MPs Oksana Savchuk and Anton Poliakov registered draft resolutions on the cancellation of the land market bill. Other MPs, including ten members of the Batkivshchyna faction, later began to submit similar documents in parliament. In total, 13 draft laws on the repeal of the law were registered in parliament.
According to the parliament's rules of procedure, without their consideration, the Verkhovna Rada chairman cannot sign the bill and submit it for signature to the president.
