Infrastructure Ministry, EIB to launch another project on urban transport renewal in Ukraine

The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine with the support of the European Investment Bank (EIB) will launch a new project “Urban Public Transport of Ukraine ІІ” for 2020, the ministry’s press service has reported.

“The Infrastructure Ministry has addressed the European Investment Bank to initiate a new project ‘Urban Public Transport of Ukraine ІІ’ for 2020,” Deputy Infrastructure Minister for European Integration Natalia Forsiuk said.

According to her, the project envisages the provision of the Ukrainian cities with modern ecological transport – the renewal of the parks of trams, trolleybuses, electric buses, as well as subway cars.

The Infrastructure Ministry considered proposals of local governments from 23 regionals centers of Ukraine and sent them for EIB consideration. The term for submitting applications has been extended for the cities of Southeastern Ukraine with a population of more than 100,000 people.

The Infrastructure Ministry noted that some Ukrainian cities would receive financing for the reconstruction of infrastructure objects in the coming months.

The total cost of the project will amount to EUR 400 million, including EUR 200 million of EIB funds.
