Political consultations on the introduction of a free trade area (FTA) between Ukraine and Turkey will take place in the near future.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this this at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in Odesa on Friday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We talked about our future FTA agreement. Political consultations will take place soon … Some $4 billion turnover is very far from our potential," Klimkin said.

According to him, the parties also decided to develop a draft agreement on social security of the citizens of Ukraine working in Turkey, and the citizens of Turkey who work at the enterprises of Ukraine.

"More and more Ukrainians are working in Turkey, more and more Turkish citizens are working in Ukraine. We will have expert consultations in the near future and we need this agreement," he explained.

Klimkin stressed that "the parties will also continue to exert efforts to strengthen the prospects for military and technical cooperation." They also decided to create joint ventures.
