Registration in Cyrillic domain .укр to start in early 2014

KYIV, December 6 /Ukrinform/. Registration in the national Cyrillic domain .укр will open to everyone in early 2014.

Chairman of the State Agency of Ukraine for Science, Innovation and Informatization, member of the Governmental Advisory Committee of the ICANN, Volodymyr Semynozhenko said this at a meeting with ICANN Vice President for Europe Nigel Hickson on Friday.

"Already at the beginning of next year an absolutely free registration of names and Internet addresses will be opened - for anyone," Semynozhenko said.

According to him, delegating the Cyrillic national domain .укр. for Ukraine is a significant event. The entire registration process takes place without any problems thanks to the fact that Ukraine has taken into account the experience of other countries that are already engaged in the introduction of their national domains.

"Now there is the fourth stage of the privileged registration of names in our national sector of the Internet space. And I think it will be a very important step both for our sector of the Internet space, and for the ICANN, which is responsible for coordination of all addresses and names throughout the Internet," the Ukrainian official noted.

ICANN Vice President for Europe Nigel Hickson noted that the existence of the national Cyrillic domain in Ukraine also plays a role for the integration into the European space.

During the event an agreement was signed with the ICANN on mutual responsibility and powers of the parties to administer the address space of the Ukrainian segment of the Internet.
