Akhmetov the only Ukrainian among 100 richest people on planet
KYIV, January 25 /UKRINFORM/. Only one Ukrainian representative, the country's richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, has been included in the list of the world's 100 richest people according to Bloomberg. Compared to last year, he climbed from 38th to 26th position, the Korrespondent magazine has reported.
According to Bloomberg, the businessman has a net worth of $22.2 billion, which places him between Hong Kong jewelry magnate Cheng Yu Tung and owner of a German supermarket chain Dieter Schwartz.
"Among the notable facts about Ukraine's richest person, Bloomberg named his close cooperation with President Viktor Yanukovych, control over half of the Ukrainian steel, coal and electricity market, and ownership of Ukraine's top football club [Shakhtar Donetsk]," reads the report.
However, Bloomberg reacted skeptically to the transparency of Akhmetov's fortune, putting him three on a scale of confidence that casts doubt on the reliability of official information about companies.
The report also says that the list of the 100 richest people on the planet includes 12 Russians, but none of them managed to join the top ten, while Russia's richest man, Alisher Usmanov, is ten spots behind Akhmetov, occupying 36th position.
