Defense Minister of Ukraine Andriy Taran held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom Melinda Simmons and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada Larisa Galadza, the ministry’s press service reported.

"At the meeting, the Ukrainian defense minister stated about the continuation of the course towards the Euro-Atlantic integration, noting that it is a necessary component for strengthening the capabilities of the Armed Forces," reads the statement.

Taran also outlined five priority goals of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, which include: technological modernization of weapon systems; work on increasing professionalism; creation of decent conditions for military service; social protection of military personnel and raising the level of interaction of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with Alliance forces to further move towards NATO membership.

The minister stressed that these objectives would be achieved by developing and implementing the required state policy and efficient defense management to respond to military threats. "We are committed to continue the defense reform with new strength, energy, confidence and optimism. The priorities of the Defense Ministry are aimed at achieving reconcilability with the Alliance in key areas of activity," he said.

The parties also discussed prospective directions of cooperation in the military-technical and defense- industrial sectors aimed at increasing the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and developing the country's defense infrastructure.

The heads of diplomatic missions of Canada and the United Kingdom assured the Ukrainian defense minister of continued comprehensive support and also proposed that an information campaign be launched to support Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations, considering the fact that the Embassy of Canada and the United Kingdom are  NATO Contact Point Embassies in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian defense minister thanked the foreign partners for the consistent support of the Armed Forces in protecting the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. In this context, the minister noted the success of the training missions ORBITAL (United Kingdom) and UNIFIRE (Canada).
