Türkiye unveils new ship protection system against homing missiles
Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE), the company that developed the missile and is ready to begin its serial production, told Ukrinform about the features of the new ship protection system.
“The 130 mm BALKIN Chaff missile contains special particles that disperse after detonation in the air, forming a cloud with high radar reflectivity. This deceives missile radar guidance systems and prevents precise strikes on a vessel,” the company said.
Thanks to its broadband electromagnetic protection, BALKIN demonstrates high effectiveness against modern radar threats.
“The missile provides effective countermeasures against radio-frequency homing missiles. BALKIN, whose name in Turkic languages means ‘bright’ or ‘radiant’, was specifically designed for use on ships. The system enhances the level of protection of naval forces,” the company added.
It was also noted that following successful test launches, the system is ready for mass production. The company believes the missile has significant export potential and could be of interest to countries investing in the development of their naval forces.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Türkiye recently demonstrated the domestically produced Aselsan TOLUN bunker-buster munition, designed to strike hard-to-reach targets.
