Over the next three years, Canada will allocate $105.6 million for training Ukrainian military personnel and other security assistance.

As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, it is stated in the draft federal budget of Canada submitted to the Parliament.

“The Government remains committed to continued support for Ukraine. Given this, the budget for 2019 confirms an intention to allocate over next three years up to $105.6 million for the resumption of Operation UNIFIER,” the document reads.

As noted, these funds will be used to provide training for the Ukrainian military and to implement the strategic goals of reforming the Ukrainian defense sector.

“This amount includes $99.6 million in additional funds, which will be allocated over three years to extend Canada’s military contribution, as well as up to $6 million to support broader efforts to implement security and defense reforms in Ukraine, allocated by the Foreign Ministry from existing budget resources for international development,” the document says.

In addition, it is stated that the military support for Ukraine “amplifies Canada’s participation in reassurance and deterrence events in Central and Eastern Europe as part of Operation REASSURANCE, which was extended in July 2018 and will cost $514 million over four years.”

“Canada is a reliable partner of Ukraine and is one of the largest international supporters of the country's efforts to defend itself and implement democratic and economic reforms,” the draft budget stresses.

As reported, Canada extended the Operation UNIFIER to train Ukrainian service members until the end of March 2022.
