United States transfers two Island-class patrol boats to Ukraine. Photos, video
As an Ukrinform correspondent reports, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko attended the ceremony.
"The first two Island-class patrol boats will become another brick to strengthen the naval alliance between Ukrainian and American peoples," the President posted on Facebook.
“Russia undermines the freedom of the seas and navigation in the Sea of Azov by cowardly hunting and bullying commercial ships. Russia is not giving up its plans to get a land corridor to the occupied Crimea. The occupation doesn’t come cheap for Russia,” the President posted on Twitter.

“Having faced a strong opposition on the land, Russia is testing waters for a possible offensive from the sea. Like a hooligan at the street, Moscow makes a blow. If no reaction follows, it makes another blow. Our task to assure Kremlin of our resolve to protect Ukraine’s shores,” he added.

Vasyl Radchuk, the head of the shipbuilding department of the Ukrainian Navy Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, told representatives of the Ukrainian media that the characteristics of Island-class boats allowed patrolling the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.
It is planned to equip the boats with Ukrainian artillery systems and American communication and navigation systems and replace or repair the engines.
The boats are to arrive in Ukraine in August or September next year. They will be based in Odesa.
