Four police officers were killed in the Cherkasy region during an operation to arrest a suspect in the attempted murder of a city council deputy.

This was reported to Ukrinform by a reliable source.

"There is a city council deputy and head of an NGO in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi who is young, very determined, and confrontational. Apparently, due to his hyperactivity, two warning attempts on his life have already been made. He asked the police to investigate the matter. The police figured out who was behind it. Yesterday, an order was issued, and today an investigative team was sent to the scene to arrest the perpetrator," the source said.

The law enforcement officers were ambushed, and when they got out of the car, the criminal opened fire with an automatic firearm. All bullet wounds were to the neck, as the police officers were wearing helmets and bulletproof vests.

Four police officers were killed, and one was wounded. Special forces eliminated the killer. An investigation is underway.

Earlier, National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi reported that in the Cherkasy region, a man wanted for murder shot and killed four police officers during his arrest. However, special forces eliminated the shooter.

As reported by Ukrinform, on December 24, 2025, an attempt was made on the life of Vitalii Storozhuk, a member of the Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi City Council and head of the Future for the City NGO. In particular, his car was burned. He wrote on social media that he considers it arson. Investigators opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 15 (attempted crime) and Part 2 of Article 115 (intentional murder committed in a manner dangerous to the lives of many people) of the Criminal Code.

Storozhuk became a member of the Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi City Council on Oleh Liashko's Radical Party list. Recently, the deputy raised the issue of the unsatisfactory condition of shelters in educational institutions at city council sessions and on social media.
