The Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained four residents of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, who were working for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) to direct missile and bomb strikes on the city.

According to Ukrinform, the SBU reported that the suspects operated independently but were overseen by a single Russian handler.

Their primary task was to gather and transmit coordinates of Ukrainian Defense Forces positions. Among those detained is a 35-year-old IT specialist who allegedly used his work installing internet services as a cover to inquire about the locations of Ukrainian military units.

The group also consists of a 23-year-old market loader and two unemployed individuals who allegedly roamed the city, recording the locations of key sites.

According to case files, all suspects were recruited via Telegram channels by Russian operatives promising easy money. To prepare intelligence reports, they marked potential targets on Google Maps and attached detailed descriptions to screenshots.

SBU officers uncovered the operation, detained all participants, and seized mobile devices containing evidence of collaboration with the Russian FSB.

Investigators have formally charged them under Part 2 of Article 111 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (high treason committed under martial law). The suspects remain in custody without the possibility of bail and face life imprisonment with property confiscation.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, the SBU recently detained an FSB agent in a military unit in the Kirovohrad region, accused of coordinating Russian air strikes.
