The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has detained a young man and woman, aged 18 and 19, who were preparing to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near a military facility in Zaporizhzhia on March 25 under orders from Russian handlers.

As reported by Ukrinform, this information was confirmed by the SSU.

According to the SSU counterintelligence, the Russians planned to remotely detonate the device near the checkpoint of the military facility, intending to kill their own agents in the blast.

The SSU preemptively identified and arrested the two agents while they were equipping the IED with additional shrapnel elements.

The arrest took place in a private building located directly opposite the main entrance of the military facility.

The suspects had rented the premises as an observation post, installing a hidden webcam on the window with remote access for Russian intelligence services.

According to the investigation, the perpetrators were cohabiting partners who were recruited by Russian defense intelligence while searching for easy earnings in Telegram channels.

During the search, the law enforcement officers seized components for assembling the IED, a video camera used for surveillance, mobile phones containing evidence of the crime.
