Level of specificity in Coalition of Willing summit declaration is encouraging – expert
Tinatin Akhvlediani, a Research Fellow in the EU Foreign Policy Unit at CEPS in Brussels, stated this in a comment to Ukrinform.
"The fact that the meeting took place at all is significant, given the rapidly evolving and highly fluid foreign policy events. There were no openly clashing positions, and the discussions suggested genuine progress toward identifying common ground among all the parties," Akhvlediani said.
In her view, the most important outcome is that the summit provided greater clarity on how the so-called Coalition of the Willing intends to contribute to credible deterrence against Russian aggression once the peace deal is reached.
"We heard concrete proposals from France and the United Kingdom, in particular, outlining how deterrence could be structured across land, air, and maritime domains," she recalled, adding that this level of specificity is "encouraging."
According to Akhvlediani, this indicates that Europe is moving beyond abstract declarations and toward a more operational understanding of its role in supporting Ukraine's security and deterring future escalation.
As Ukrinform reported, following the meeting in Paris, the leaders of the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine, and the United States signed a statement titled "Robust Security Guarantees for a Solid and Lasting Peace in Ukraine."
Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said that during the Paris meeting, the Coalition of the Willing together with the United States confirmed their readiness to make a substantial contribution to security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
Eric Ciaramella, an expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told Ukrinform that the Coalition of the Willing summit in Paris became a "dress rehearsal" for Europe's autonomy in security matters.
President Zelensky said today that a bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is effectively ready to be finalized at the highest level with U.S. President Donald Trump.
