FSB contract killer who attempted to assassinate DIU officer detained in Kyiv
This was reported by the SSU on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
The detainee is identified as a 28-year-old citizen of a Central Asian country.
Investigators established that the Russian special service recruited the suspect in his home country while he was seeking easy money via Telegram channels.
Following FSB instructions, the agent arrived in Ukraine posing as a tourist. He initially stayed in Pervomaisk, Mykolaiv region, where he purchased several smartphones and SIM cards, which he regularly changed to maintain clandestine communications with the enemy’s intelligence service.
The foreign national then traveled to Kyiv. From his handler, he received photographs of the potential “target,” approximate geolocations, and the coordinates of a cache from which he retrieved a pistol and ammunition.
For physically eliminating the officer, the perpetrator was promised USD 50,000 and legalization in one of the European Union countries.
The SSU detained the contract killer red-handed as he drew the pistol and aimed it at the serviceman in one of the capital’s public venues. Officers seized the weapon with ammunition and a smartphone containing evidence of contacts with the Russian special service.
The detainee has been formally charged under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 2 of Article 15, Part 2 of Article 115 – completed attempt at premeditated murder;
- Part 1 of Article 111-2 – aiding the aggressor state;
- Part 1 of Article 263 – illegal handling of weapons, ammunition, or explosives.
The suspect is being held in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, a court sentenced a Russian agent to 14 years’ imprisonment with confiscation of property for preparing contract murders of public activists in Odesa.
