A total of 48 criminal proceedings are being investigated in Donetsk region regarding the execution of captured Ukrainian service members.

Pavlo Uhrovetskyi, Head of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, reported this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the regional prosecutor’s office, 48 criminal proceedings are being investigated concerning the execution of prisoners of war among the service members of Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Each of these cases is a documented war crime,” the prosecutor said.

He emphasized that Russian troops deliberately execute Ukrainian defenders, violating the Geneva Conventions and displaying blatant disregard for human life.

“The killers of our soldiers must face justice,” Uhrovetskyi stressed.

He noted that two Russian servicemen have been notified of suspicion in absentia. During the assault on Staromaiorske, they ordered that no Ukrainian soldiers be left alive and that the bodies of the dead be decapitated “and then place the severed heads on stakes and display them like fences at sites where Ukrainian flags were located.” They also instructed troops to loot fallen marines taking money, gold, and tearing off insignia, the prosecutor said.

As reported earlier, a district court in Zaporizhzhia found Russian serviceman Dmitry Kurashov guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment for shooting a Ukrainian soldier who had surrendered on the battlefield in January 2024.
