Strike on Ukrainian troops in Dnipropetrovsk region: Navy reports suspensions amid probe

Following the deaths and injuries of Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel as a result of a Russian strike in the Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation within a military unit to determine all the circumstances, and several officers have been suspended from their positions.

The 30th Marine Corps of the Ukrainian Navy reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

According to the post, on November 1, during a missile and drone strike carried out by Russian forces on a village in the Samar district, Dnipropetrovsk region, there were Ukrainian service members from one of the marine brigades present.

The strike hit the center of the settlement, where there is no parade ground.

"Unfortunately, among the dead and wounded are both civilians and members of our brigade. The command of the 30th Marine Corps expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the fallen. At present, law enforcement officers are conducting investigative actions within the military unit to establish all the details of the incident. Certain officers have also been suspended from their duties," the statement reads.

On November 1, Russian forces struck the village of Novotroitske in the Samar district, Dnipropetrovsk region, with a ballistic missile and a drone. Among the dead and injured were two children.

Russian troops also attacked Nikopol, as well as the Pokrovske, Marhanets, and Chervonohryhorivka communities with FPV drones and artillery fire.

The East Group of Forces reported that Ukrainian soldiers were killed and wounded as a result of the missile and drone strike. An inspection has been launched to determine whether air raid alerts were issued in time, and whether troop placement and outdoor gatherings were appropriately restricted and kept away from non-designated areas.

The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) later announced that a pre-trial investigation had been initiated.
