The Ukrainian side is discussing with the European Union the introduction of sanctions against Russia targeting the shadow fleet, Russian oligarchs, and individuals involved in the abduction of Ukrainian children.

According to Ukrinform,Commissioner of the President of Ukraine for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk announced this during a television broadcast.

"Last week, we held consultations and presented many of our proposals that should be included in the 20th sanctions package. This concerns both the section on sanction evasion and the Russian military-industrial complex. We have many ideas, including those related to specific types of Russian weapons. There is the shadow fleet infrastructure (...) There is also the major issue of Russian oligarchs who are still not under sanctions, and the issue of individuals involved in the abduction of children, which President Zelensky mentioned on Friday. We will also work on that. Of course, the financial and infrastructure sectors are part of the discussion as well," Vlasiuk said.

He added that the Ukrainian side is considering another type of sanction that can be combined with traditional restrictive measures. As an example, he cited the strike on the oil terminal in Tuapse, Krasnodar region, Russia.

"When you strike a terminal or an oil refinery, it has to be repaired afterward. To do this, they often have to import certain goods from Europe or the United States. Some are already under sanctions, but I think we will significantly expand this list so that the effects of kinetic sanctions are felt as long and as strongly as possible," he emphasized.

Vlasiuk also noted that the 19th sanctions package was more than 50% based on sanctions already implemented by Ukraine or proposed by the Ukrainian government.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 23 the European Union approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. The package targets Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, and companies in India and China, among others.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is providing its proposals to the EU regarding the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
