Prisoner exchange: Coordination Headquarters outlines two tracks of negotiations with Russians
According to Ukrinform, Bohdan Okhrimenko, Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, reports this.
“The negotiations with the opposing side regarding the exchange of prisoners of war are ongoing. The Coordination Headquarters is working on two tracks: the return of our people under the Istanbul agreements, as well as the so-called numbered exchanges,” said Bohdan Okhrimenko, Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.
He recalled that, according to the agreements reached in Türkiye, all severely ill, seriously wounded, and young people under the age of 25 are to be returned home.
“The exchanges currently taking place are combined: we are bringing back both those who fall under the Istanbul criteria and those whose return can be agreed upon by the negotiation group,” noted the Head of the Secretariat of the Coordination Headquarters.
According to him, during the talks, the Coordination Headquarters also drew attention to the return of civilians.
Okhrimenko emphasized that the prisoner exchange is a complex and lengthy process, yet it ultimately brings results.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, since the beginning of the year, more than 3,200 Ukrainians have been officially recognized as having been held in captivity.
