During bad weather, Russians launch fewer drones but intensify shelling and assaults – Voloshyn

Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, reported this live on television, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

According to Voloshyn, on days with poor visibility, the enemy uses reconnaissance drones, kamikaze drones, and UAVs less frequently. However, it compensates for this by intensifying shelling and increasing the number of munitions used in such attacks.

He also warned that the enemy may exploit worsening weather conditions to intensify assault actions. In particular, Russian forces are gradually deploying personnel from assault units to front-line positions from which they launch attacks.

“One of the stages where we are trying to stop the enemy is during the redeployment of personnel to front-line positions, so we aim to strike earlier. When weather conditions worsen, they will likely attempt to do this more intensively,” Voloshyn said.

He added that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are monitoring enemy concentrations and plan to act preemptively to reduce the number of assaults and preserve defensive positions.

As reported by Ukrinform, over the past 24 hours, on October 16, 178 combat engagements between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian invaders were recorded, with the enemy most active in the Pokrovsk and Oleksandrohrad sectors.
