Early on Thursday, October 16, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on Ukraine, which included two ballistic missiles hitting the territory of a Ukrainian Ground Forces training unit. The facility is located in a rear and relatively quiet part of the country.
Operational Command South said this in a Facebook post seen by Ukrinform.
"Due to the enemy hit, and despite alerts, movement to shelters, and other security measures taken, it was not possible to completely avoid casualties. Relevant emergency services are working at the site. The wounded are being provided with all necessary medical assistance promptly. Service members of the unit will have the opportunity to contact their relatives in the near future," the statement read.
The Military Law Enforcement Service is conducting an official investigation into the incident in line with a decision made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
