Russian forces shell Kostiantynivka with Smerch MLRS: Three civilians killed, four injured

Russian troops shelled the city of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region, with Smerch multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), killing three civilians and injuring four others.

This was reported on Facebook by the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, according to Ukrinform.

“On August 20, 2025, occupying forces shelled Kostiantynivka. As a result of the attack, two women aged 40 and 69 and a 32-year-old man died from injuries incompatible with life. Four other civilians sustained blast and shrapnel wounds and received qualified medical assistance,” the statement reads.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the rockets struck residential areas and the local market. The attack damaged private homes, apartment buildings, vehicles, commercial establishments, and a power line.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched under Article 438, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, regarding the commission of a war crime.

As previously reported, on August 19, Russian forces killed one resident of the Donetsk region and wounded ten others.
