Zelensky shows aftermath of Russian strikes that killed 22 in one day
President Volodymyr Zelensky shared the statement and related footage via Telegram, as reported by Ukrinform.
“As of now, it is known that in just one past day – when everyone once again felt a sense of hope that the killing might stop – the Russian army killed 22 people in Ukraine. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Another 85 people were wounded. Seventy-three Ukrainian cities and villages came under Russian attack,” he wrote.
Zelensky added that last night, the Russians launched a missile strike on the city of Kamianske, targeting the city hospital. Three people were killed in the attack, including a pregnant woman. Her name was Diana. She was only 23 years old.
“Late yesterday, near midnight, Russian aircraft dropped bombs on the grounds of a correctional colony in the Zaporizhzhia region. It was a deliberate strike, intentional, not accidental. The Russians could not have been unaware that they were targeting civilians in that facility. Many were killed, and another 43 people were wounded, some of them with very severe injuries. And this was done after a completely clear position was voiced by the United States – a position supported by the world – that Russia must end this war and move to diplomacy,” the President noted.
The head of state stressed that every killing of Ukrainians by the Russians, every Russian strike – at a time when a ceasefire could have long been in place, if not for Russia’s refusal – all of this shows that “Moscow deserves very harsh, truly painful, and therefore just and effective sanctions pressure. They must be compelled to stop the killing and make peace.”
At the same time, Zelensky recalled that yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump noted that the Russian leadership is wasting the world’s time by talking about peace while simultaneously killing people.
“We all want genuine peace – dignified and lasting: Ukraine, all of Europe, the United States, and many decent leaders and countries around the world who support us. Everyone needs peace in international relations and predictability in life. Everyone – except Russia,” he stressed.
The head of state noted that Ukraine welcomes President Trump’s efforts and his determination to achieve peace.
“We are grateful to all the leaders who are helping defend Ukraine and exerting pressure on Russia. Peace is possible. But only when Russia ends the war it itself started and stops tormenting people,” Zelensky stressed.
As Ukrinform reported, yesterday, Russia launched an airstrike on the Bilenke Correctional Colony using four guided bombs, killing 16 convicts and injuring dozens more.
