Engineering fortifications continue to be reinforced along the Ukraine-Belarus border in Zhytomyr region.

This was reported by Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration (RMA) head Vitalii Bunechko on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“Together with Colonel Serhii Melnyk, commander of the 9th Border Detachment, we inspected the defense readiness of the state border in the northern part of the region ahead of military exercises announced by the Russian regime, which are to take place, including on the territory of de facto occupied Belarus. Along the border zone, defensive measures are continuously being reinforced: the installation of barbed wire fences, low-visibility obstacle zones, and mine-explosive barriers,” Bunechko reported.

According to him, the border line and adjacent areas — where a potential buildup of enemy forces could occur — are under constant surveillance by border guards and special services. Monitoring is conducted using a network of observation towers with specialized equipment, drones, and satellite reconnaissance data.

“At present, according to the commander of the 9th Border Detachment, there is no immediate threat from Belarus, but the situation remains under control,” added the RMA chief.

Bunechko also noted that in addition to fortifying defensive lines, infrastructure for Ukrainian defenders is being developed in the border areas.

As Ukrinform previously reported, the military exercises planned for September in Belarus could increase the risk of demonstrative actions by Russia near the Ukrainian border.
