As a result of the missile strike on the center of Sumy, the number of fatalities has risen to 21, while 83 people have been injured, according to updated information. People were harmed while walking on the street, sitting in their cars, on public transport, and inside their homes.

As reported by Ukrinform, this information was shared on Telegram by Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

“Russia struck right in the center of the city with ballistic missiles — precisely at a time when there were many people on the streets. A deliberate targeting of civilians on a major religious holiday,” Klymenko stated.

He added that rescue workers and police were on the scene within minutes of the strike.

Law enforcement has cordoned off the affected area.

The Minister also announced that a coordination center is being set up in Sumy to receive claims and provide assistance to the victims. Additionally, psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) and the police are working with those affected.

“Investigators and forensic experts are working at the strike locations to collect evidence and document the brutal war crime committed by Russia against the civilian population,” Klymenko added.

Later the Minister updated the information: "Updated data as of 12:20: 21 people have died, 83 people have been injured, including seven children. All are receiving medical assistance."

Emergency services continue to work at the scene.

“Sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Sumy, we mourn with you,” Klymenko wrote.
