If the International Court of Justice approves a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Israel supports it, Hamas will also observe the truce.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Xinhua with reference to a Hamas statement.

"If the court decides on a ceasefire, the Hamas movement will observe the truce, provided that Israel does the same," Hamas said.

In addition, the group promised to "release the Israeli prisoners if Israel releases the Palestinian prisoners."

At the same time, Hamas also demanded that Israel "end the 18-year siege of Gaza and allow the necessary aid for reconstruction."

Xinhua reminds that on January 26, the International Court of Justice in The Hague will announce a decision on precautionary measures in the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel in the case of alleged genocide in the Gaza Strip.

"The court will also decide on South Africa's request for immediate judicial intervention to stop the Israeli military operation in Gaza," the article says.

As Ukrinform reported, on December 29, 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice in The Hague for alleged violation of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Hearings on precautionary measures were held on January 11-12.

The plaintiff's lawyers claimed that Israel is pursuing an apartheid policy and that the military operation in the Gaza Strip is genocide. They asked the court to order Israel to stop the military operation and take measures to prevent the genocide of the Palestinian people. Israel denies the accusation of genocide.

According to the Israeli side, the case has no legal basis and provides political and legal cover for the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on civilians in Israel.
