Zaporizhzhia attack: Zelensky says three killed by strike

The Russian strike targeting the city of Zaporizhzhia, where a local church was hit, has taken three civilian lives so far.

President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the news on Telegram, Ukrinform saw.

"Zaporizhzhia. Another attack by Russian terrorists. As of now, three people have been reported dead. My condolences to the families! The rescue operation is underway. All victims will be provided with the necessary assistance. And this war crime of Russia will certainly face its sentence. And the response to Russian terrorists will be on the frontline - thanks to our heroic warriors," Zelensky said.

Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak wrote on social media that the strike hit the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

"It is known that three civilians were killed, five more were injured. As a result of the strike, the church building was destroyed, a number of houses and shops were damaged. The type of missile launched is currently being determined. Tentatively, it was the Iskander," Yermak reported.

As reported, on Wednesday afternoon, residents of some districts of Zaporizhzhia heard an explosion. Only after that did the air raid alert go off.

Acting Mayor of Zaporizhzhia, Anatolii Kurtev, said that as a result of the Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia, two people were killed and several were wounded, as per tentative reports from the scene.
