The cascade of islands between the Dnipro banks in Kherson region is of key importance on the Southern front as the Russians are trying to strengthen their positions there while Ukraine’s forces are working to wipe them out.

That’s according to the spokesperson for Operational Command South, Natalia Humeniuk, who spoke at the national telethon, Ukrinform reports.

"The cascade of islands on the left and right banks (of the Dnipro – ed.) in Kherson region is of critical importance on the Southern front. The enemy is trying to deploy its positions there, but we are methodically hitting them," she said.

According to the spokesperson, Ukrainian strikes have been targeting the boats carrying Russian soldiers to those islands.

"Every day, our gunners pack in black plastic bags those manning the wannabe river fleet they are trying to develop at the expense of civilian watercraft looted from the local population," Humeniuk said.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, 30 combat clashes took place between Ukraine’s Defense Forces and Russian troops over the past day.
