Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk is convinced that women should play a key role in the future recovery of both the de-occupied territories and Ukraine as a whole.

She said this while speaking at a special discussion of the Ukrainian Women's Congress (UWC) "Women's Participation in the Reconstruction of Ukraine," an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"We have experience in rebuilding the territories that have already been de-occupied. We have experience in preparing for the de-occupation of our new territories. We hope that soon we will enter our native Donetsk, Luhansk and, most importantly, Yalta, Simferopol, Sevastopol. And we focus on women's role in the reconstruction of these territories. We are talking about the work of women in local authorities, in communities, coordination centers, psychologists who accompany the affected people and help them cope with mental trauma," noted Vereshchuk.

According to her, the role of women in rebuilding the state is extremely important and comprehensive, as it is not just about rebuilding the infrastructure of cities and regions, but first and foremost about restoring people. "Because when we restore a person, then a person will restore everything. And the key role here is once again played by women who have to restore their homes, families, and men returning from the war," the Vice Prime Minister said.

In addition, she emphasized, a big challenge for the state after the war will be to resolve the issue of returning Ukrainian women from abroad. Vereshchuk is convinced that the state must fight for every such woman and child, and create such conditions in the country that these women clearly know and understand where they can return, who is waiting for them, and what they will do.

As reported by Ukrinform, 8 million Ukrainians are currently in forced emigration, 90% of whom are women and children.
