Yahidne village, where Russians held 370 civilians in basement for month, being restored
Mustafa Nayyem , the head of the State Agency for the Restoration and Development of Infrastructure, wrote about this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.
"This is a very special project for us. Last March, the village of Yahidne was completely occupied by Russian troops. The Russian military organized a headquarters in the local school, and in the basement of the educational institution, they forcibly detained civilians - more than 370 villagers, including 70 children. During the detention, 10 residents of Yahidne were killed," the post reads.
By the government's decision, Yahidne became one of six settlements to be restored as part of the pilot project, Nayyem added.
According to him, the State Agency for Reconstruction, together with the Ministry of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development, are working on developing a general concept of reconstruction, transferring customer functions and design. The Regional Recovery Service will also hold public hearings on the design code for buildings and structures. One of the top priorities is the reconstruction and modernization of residential buildings in Yahidne. This will include insulation of buildings, replacement of roofs, windows and entrance doors. In addition, it is planned to reconstruct the streets, install new fences and pave the roads.
In total, there are about 120 communal and private property objects within the settlement. This year, it is planned to restore residential buildings in the first place.
In addition to residential buildings, a memorial will be created in Yahidne around the basement of the school, which was the place of tragic events during the occupation.
As reported, about 400 people lived in Yahidne before the occupation.
