The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has regulated the issue of deferral and exemption of citizens from conscription for military service.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.

"The government has amended the Regulations on the preparation and conduct of conscription of Ukrainian citizens for regular military service and the acceptance of conscripts for military service under contract. The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted the relevant resolution developed by the Ministry of Defence. The document will bring certain provisions of the Regulations in line with the requirements of Ukrainian legislation governing the granting of deferment or exemption of citizens from conscription for regular military service," the statement said.

The amendments provide for the determination of the grounds for granting a postponement of conscription for regular military service to a conscript who has a child (children) under the age of 18 and is raising him/her on his/her own.

In addition, the amendments provide for the removal of the grounds for granting a deferral from conscription to conscripts who have a child or spouse with a disability.

The document will also define the grounds for exemption from conscription for regular military service for conscripts who are raising a child with a disability under the age of 18 or with a serious illness; have a spouse with a disability; or who care for persons with disabilities or persons in need.

The resolution was adopted to comply with the requirements of the Law "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Exemption from Military Service of Persons with Disabilities and Persons Caring for Persons with Disabilities and Sick Children" and the Law "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Exemption from Military Service of Certain Categories of Citizens".

As Ukrinform reported, in May, the Verkhovna Rada passed a law reducing the age limit for military registration from 27 to 25 years.
