People continue to be rescued from under the rubble of the Mariupol Drama Theater destroyed by Russian invaders. There is currently no information about the killed.

"People continue to be rescued from under the rubble of the Mariupol Drama Theater destroyed by the Russian occupiers… According to preliminary information, there are no data about the killed. But there is information about one seriously injured person," the Mariupol Town Council posted on Telegram.

The Town Council reminded that on March 16, Russian-occupation forces deliberately destroyed the Drama Theater in the heart of Mariupol. Up to a thousand people stayed there at the time of the bombing. Most of them were women, children, and elderly people who hid in the basement of the theater from continuous attacks by the aggressor.

Due to constant air strikes and fighting in the town, it was almost impossible to clear the rubble away immediately after the shelling. In the rare moments of relative calm, people promptly approached the site of the destroyed theater and rescued the trapped Mariupol residents.

Russian invaders caused the worst humanitarian catastrophe in Mariupol. Unable to defeat the Ukrainian army, they are bombing the unarmed and blocking humanitarian aid. As of March 13, 2,187 Mariupol residents were killed in attacks by the Russian Federation.

On March 16-17, about 35,000 civilians left Mariupol constantly shelled by the Russian aggressor.

On February 24, Russian president Putin announced the beginning of a large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops shell and destroy infrastructure, massively fire on residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, and ballistic missiles.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine, and general mobilization was announced.
