Norway to send anti-tank grenade launchers to Ukraine

The Norwegian government will send up to 2,000 M72 anti-tank grenade launchers to Ukraine.

Ukrinform reports this with reference to Reuters.

The decision overturns a Norwegian policy in place since the 1950s of not sending arms to non-NATO countries that are at war or at risk of armed conflict.

"Norway has strict policies regarding exports of military equipment, but Ukraine now faces extraordinary circumstances," Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere said.

As Ukrinform reported, due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund – Norway’s Government Pension Fund Global (GPFG) - will lose its Russian assets amounting to about $2.8 billion.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure. Missiles hit residential buildings.

Martial law was imposed in Ukraine and general mobilization was announced.

Ukraine officially filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the UN International Court of Justice in The Hague.
