Kremlin claims Trump remains interested as Ukraine-Russia talks

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow does not see any signs that US President Donald Trump has lost interest in Ukraine peace talks.

Ukrinform reports this, citing the BBC Russian service.

Peskov told journalists that Russia had seen a Financial Times report suggesting that the peace negotiation process in Ukraine had stalled after Trump turned his attention to the war in Iran. However, Russian authorities disagree with claims that the US leader has lost interest in the peace process in Ukraine.

“On the other hand, one can say that President Trump’s recent active references to Ukraine in his statements indicate otherwise. Judging by his statements, President Trump has not lost any interest,” the Kremlin spokesperson said.

At the same time, Peskov criticized Trump for reportedly urging President Zelensky to make a deal, while claiming that the Ukrainian side is allegedly delaying the negotiation process.

Peskov also asserted that the Russian side is allegedly open to continuing the negotiation process. “We are waiting for the next round of talks. Unfortunately, for understandable reasons, the time and place have not yet been agreed upon,” he said.

The next round of trilateral talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States was expected in Abu Dhabi but was postponed indefinitely due to the war in the Middle East. According to Peskov, scheduling of the next round “may occur in the near future.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly proposed holding peace negotiations at the leaders level. Vladimir Putin stated that the Ukrainian President could travel to Moscow, which Kyiv considers an unacceptable condition.

Previously, trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia were held in Geneva on February 17–18.

On March 9, Zelensky said that new trilateral talks planned for early March were postponed at the request of the US due to events in Iran.

On March 11, US President’s Envoy Steve Witkoff stated that he already sees signs of a turning point in negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, as the parties are “exhausted.”

Zelensky added that the planned trilateral meeting in the US remains uncertain because the Russian delegation “is not ready to fly to America.”
