Zelensky: Timing of next round of peace talks depends on Americans
President Volodymyr Zelensky said this while speaking to journalists following his visit to France, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The talks were initially scheduled for Wednesday–Thursday next week, but the American side requested a postponement.
“There’s a whole saga going on with these negotiations because of the war in the Middle East. The Americans said they are ready for a meeting, but only in the U.S., because the security situation prevents them from leaving the country right now,” Zelensky explained.
Ukraine confirmed that its delegation is ready to travel to Miami or Washington, but Russia refused to meet in the U.S., proposing instead Türkiye or Switzerland, which the Americans rejected.
“We immediately said that we are ready to meet next week – we are preparing for a meeting in America, Switzerland, Türkiye, or even, if they dare, in the Emirates,” he added, noting that whether the talks take place depends on the Americans.
As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to resume negotiations to end the war as soon as its American partners are prepared.
The President noted that, even though the world’s attention is currently focused on the situation in Iran, Ukraine must remain ready to restart diplomacy at any moment.
