Ukraine’s air defenses down 60 of 116 Russian drones in overnight attack

Ukraine’s air defense forces neutralized 60 of 116 UAVs launched by Russian forces against Ukraine since the evening of December 23.

According to Ukrinform, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this on Telegram.

According to the military, starting at 19:00 on Tuesday, December 23, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 116 strike UAVs, including Shahed-type drones, Gerbera drones, and other types of unmanned aerial vehicles, launched from the directions of Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo, Oryol, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied Crimea). About 90 of them were Shahed-type drones.

A significant number of attack drones were directed at a critical infrastructure facility in the Chernihiv region.

The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units and unmanned systems, as well as mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

According to preliminary data, as of 8:30 on December 24, air defenses had shot down or suppressed 60 enemy UAVs of the Shahed type, Gerbera, and other drone types in the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.

Impacts from 48 strike drones were recorded at 19 locations.

The attack is ongoing, with several enemy drones still present in Ukrainian airspace, the Air Force warned.

As reported by Ukrinform, in the evening of December 23, Russian forces shelled a key energy infrastructure facility in the Chernihiv region, leaving parts of the city of Chernihiv without electricity.
