Shmyhal, EBRD president discuss preparations for upcoming Recovery Conference
As reported by Ukrinform, Shmyhal shared details of the meeting on Facebook, noting it took place on the sidelines of the UN International Conference on Financing for Development.
The Prime Minister said that the parties are expanding cooperation, particularly through the European Union’s guarantee mechanisms, adding that the talks were also focused on preparations for the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome this July.
According to the Prime Minister, Ukraine and the EBRD are working to finalize key agreements spanning sectors such as energy, communications, and transportation. He also noted that new development projects are underway in Ukrainian cities and communities, building on commitments made during the Spring Meetings in Washington.
“I emphasized that confiscated Russian assets should serve as a vital source of funding for Ukraine’s recovery,” he stated.
Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso for her personal commitment to Ukraine’s recovery efforts.
“I thanked her for nearly EUR 7 billion in investment mobilized since the start of the full-scale invasion to support Ukraine’s economy, particularly in implementing critical infrastructure projects,” Shmyhal said.
He emphasized the EBRD’s close collaboration with Ukrainian state-owned enterprises, including Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukrenergo, and Naftogaz. “I’m especially thankful for the approval of an EUR 270 million loan to Naftogaz for urgent gas procurement this year,” he noted.
As Ukrinform reported, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal began his working visit to Spain on June 29.
