Ukrainian Yakiv Khammo wins gold at 2026 European Open in Slovenia

The Ljubljana European Open 2026 international judo tournament has concluded in Slovenia.

On the second day of competition, World Championships bronze medalist Yakiv Khammo claimed the title in the +100 kg weight category, Ukrinform reports.

The Donetsk region representative defeated opponents from the United States, Germany, and Turkey before overcoming Mikita Sviryd in the final, who competes for Croatia.

Ukrainian judokas earlier won three medals in the Slovenian capital on February 14: Anna Kazakova (up to 78 kg) took silver, while Olha Tsimko and Anastasiia Antipina (both up to 70 kg) earned bronze.

The next competition for judokas will take place from February 27 to March 1 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where a Grand Slam series tournament will be held.
