Ukraine’s female luge athletes finish in top 20 at Milano–Cortina 2026, first time since Vancouver

The final runs of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in women’s singles luge took place in Italy.

Ukrainian athletes Yulianna Tunytska and Olena Smaha finished in the top twenty, placing 18th and 20th respectively among 25 finalists, Ukrinform reports.

Germany’s Julia Taubitz won the gold medal, Latvia’s Elina Bota took silver, and Ashley Farquharson of the United States claimed bronze.

Notably, Tunytska’s result is the best performance for Ukraine in women’s singles luge since 2010, when Nataliia Yakushenko finished 11th at the Vancouver Olympics in Canada.

Overall, the Olympic program in Italy features 16 sports, with 116 sets of medals to be awarded.

As reported, Ukraine is represented by 46 athletes competing in 11 sports.

The 2026 Winter Olympics will run through February 22.
