Shakhtar beat Genk in Champions League qualifier

Shakhtar Donetsk have defeated Belgium's Genk 2-1 in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League.

The match took place at the Luminus Arena in Genk on Tuesday, August 3, Ukrinform reports.

Genk's Paul Onuachu scored an opener in the 39th minute. Shakhtar's Tete made it 1-1 from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute, and Alan Patrick scored a winner in the 81st minute.

The return match will take place in Kyiv on August 10.

The winner of the two-leg tie will meet in the playoff round with the best team of the tie between France's Monaco and the Czech Republic's Sparta. The games at this stage will take place on August 17/18 and 24/25.

Dynamo Kyiv will begin their Champions League performance from the group stage.
