Ukraine lifts ban on participation of its athletes in competitions in Russia
A new document, dated April 11, concerns a ban on funding for training camps and the participation of national teams in competitions on Russian territory. Federations are recommended to refrain from participating in competitions in Russia.
"In response to numerous reports in the media about the illegal decision, according to the authors of materials, by the Wrestling Association on the participation in the European Wrestling Championships in Kaspiysk, despite the ban of the Youth and Sports Ministry, we note that according to Ukrainian Youth and Sport Ministry order No. 1554 of April 11, 2018, order No. 1065 of March 14, 2018, which banned the participation of Ukrainian athletes in the events held on Russian territory, has lost its validity. At the same time, the order of April 11, 2018 does not ban Ukrainian athletes from taking part in international competitions held on the territory of the Russian Federation, but bans the financing of sporting events at the expense of the state budget," the statement reads.
As reported, due to the ban on participation in competitions in Russia, Ukrainian biathlon teams did not perform at the final stage of the World Cup in Tyumen, and Ukraine lost its quota for the next season.
