Usyk returns to Kyiv, promises to work on mistakes

WBO and WBC cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has returned to Kyiv after defeating Latvia's Mairis Briedis and shared his thoughts about the fight, according to Hromadske.

"Briedis is a strong boxer, but it turned out that he is not stronger than me. I'm shocked that there was only one clinch during the fight. It is good that this happened, because otherwise there would be no boxing," Usyk said.

He said that after the fight he could not fall asleep for a long time. "After a couple of days, when all the noise around the battle goes away, I'll sit down, watch the fight, write down the mistakes and we will fix them," he told journalists and fans at Kyiv's Boryspil Airport.

WBO cruiserweight champion Usyk defeated WBC title holder Briedis by a majority points decision. They met in the semifinal of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) tournament in Riga, Latvia, on January 27. Usyk won 115-113, 115-113 and 114-114.

Usyk will face the winner of an other semifinal between IBF champion Murat Gassiev and WBA belt holder Yunier Dorticos. The battle will be held in Sochi on February 3.
