Hetman Sahaidachny frigate arrives at Crete
KYIV, September 30 /Ukrinform/. The Hetman Sahaidachny frigate has arrived on a friendly visit to the Souda Bay naval base (Crete, Greece) by making a three-day journey in the Black, Marmara and Aegean Seas in bad weather, the commander of the national contingent, who is on board the frigate, Rear Admiral Andriy Tarasov, has told the press and information department of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
"The ship's movement to the coast of Greece continued in adverse weather conditions - strong winds, heavy waves and pitching, so the crew of the ship did not have time to fulfill a complete list of scheduled events in the Black Sea. However, despite adverse weather conditions, the crew successfully coped with the first task assigned for this visit," Tarasov said.
According to the plan of a friendly visit to Greece, the presence of the Ukrainian warship at Souda Bay will be full of protocol and training activities, in particular, the ship has already been filled with diesel fuel and oils.
As reported, the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate, its crew and other units that are part of the Ukrainian national contingent, should arrive at the home base in Djibouti in the Horn of Africa on October 8 to participate in NATO- and EU-led anti-piracy operations Ocean Shield and Atalanta.
