Yanukovych delivers condolences over death of rape victim Oksana Makar
KYIV, March 29 /UKRINFORM/. President Viktor Yanukovych has expressed his condolences to the family and relatives of Oksana Makar, who died Thursday at Donetsk Burn Center, east of Ukraine, the president's press office said in a statement.
"I sincerely condole with the families and relatives of a girl who passed away prematurely as a result of the violent crime committed against her,” reads the head of state's letter of condolence.
Yanukovych voiced confidence that the criminals who had made such inhuman acts will suffer their just punishment.
A reminder that eighteen-year-old Ukrainian Oksana Makar was raped in the southern city of Mykolayiv on March 8 by three men who tried to strangle her before setting her alight. But the girl survived, though with 55% burns.
On March 16 she was transferred to Donetsk Burn Center because of the severity of her burns and damage to her lungs. Makar underwent several operations, however, on March 28 her heart had stopped because of bleeding in her lungs and she died after repeated attempts to resuscitate her, doctors have confirmed.
