In December, the number of attempts to cross the Ukrainian state border illegally decreased by approximately 20% compared to November.

This was announced by State Border Guard Service spokesman Andrii Demchenko during a briefing in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports.

“Comparing, for example, December with November, this is a decrease of about 20%. That is, weather conditions affect how people try to cross the border illegally or plan to do so. And in general, we began to record a decrease as early as September,” Demchenko said.

He noted that in January, there had also been no increase in such attempts.

“In fact, there are isolated cases when we find people with forged documents or who are trying to falsify the conditions of their departure. Most attempts still take place outside of checkpoints,” said the State Border Guard Service spokesman.

As reported, on the night of January 13, border guards of the 9th Border Detachment named after Sich Riflemen found two men suffering from hypothermia in a forest in the north of Rivne region who were trying to cross the state border of Ukraine illegally.
