As part of repatriation efforts, 1,000 bodies — which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian servicemen — have been returned to Ukraine.

The Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.

In the coming days, law enforcement investigators, together with forensic experts from the Interior Ministry, will carry out all necessary examinations and conduct the identification of the repatriated remains.

The repatriation operation was made possible through the joint efforts of staff from the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Interior Ministry, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing Under Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and other agencies within Ukraine's security and defense sector.

The Coordinating Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its assistance.

Special thanks were extended to the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who transport the repatriated fallen heroes to designated state facilities, organize their handover to law enforcement bodies under the Interior Ministry system, and facilitate forensic examination under the Health Ministry, the Coordinating Headquarters said.

Law enforcement investigators and Interior Ministry experts will establish the identities of the deceased as quickly as possible.

On August 19, Ukraine received the remains of 1,000 fallen defenders as part of a previous repatriation effort.
