Exhumation of Ukrainian graves in Poland not to begin before autumn – Poland’s IPN

The Ukrainian side has submitted a request to Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) to conduct exhumation of Ukrainian graves in the town of Jureczkowa, located in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. The exhumation works are expected to begin no earlier than this autumn, pending necessary approvals.

This was stated by Rafał Leskiewicz, Spokesperson for the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, as reported by Ukrinform with reference to PAP.

“The Institute of National Remembrance has begun efforts to obtain the necessary consents and administrative decisions to begin this work. After obtaining them, as well as after agreeing on organizational matters with the Ukrainian side, it will be possible to start the work together,” Leskiewicz said.

He added that the work will be financed by the Ukrainian side and will not begin before autumn this year.

As previously reported, Ukraine had granted permission to the Polish side to carry out exhumation of Polish soldiers killed in 1939 and buried in the former village of Zboiska (now within the city of Lviv).

Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage confirmed that Kyiv had approved the exhumation of Polish servicemen who died in 1939 and are buried at the Zboiska site.
