The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine dismissed Oleksandr Tkachenko from the post of the Minister of Culture and Information Policy.

MP from Holos parliamentary faction Yaroslav Zhelezniak posted this on Telegram.

He noted that Tkachenko was dismissed with 321 votes in favor.

Zhelezniak also noted that the issue of appointing a new minister was not on the agenda of today's parliament meeting.

As reported, on July 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky suggested in his video address that Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal should find extra-budgetary funds for relevant cultural projects and consider replacing the minister of culture and information policy.

Later, Tkachenko said that he submitted his letter of resignation "due to a wave of misunderstanding regarding the importance of culture during the war."

Tkachenko headed the Ministry since June 4, 2020.
